The Brockport meeting is held at Brockport Protectives (Firehall) 191 West Ave. across the street from Lakeside Memorial Hospital on the 2nd Tuesday and 3rd Thursday of each month. Check the Meeting page for details. Those with depression and bipolar disorder are at greater risk for suicide, so we've included a page on Suicide Prevention. |
About DBSAThe Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is the leading national, patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses. The organization seeks to create an environment of understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing effective, up-to-date, scientifically-based tools and information. DBSA supports research to promote effective, tolerable treatment and an eventual cure; and works to ensure that people living with mood disorders are treated equitably. Assisted by a 65-member Scientific Advisory Board, comprised of the leading researchers and clinicians in the field of mood disorders, DBSA has more than 1,000 peer-run support groups. Nearly 2.5 million people request and receive information and assistance each year. Mission StatementDBSA's mission is to improve the lives of people living with mood disorders (and the lives of their friends and family). About DBSA Rochester
Rochester, New York skyline courtesy Rochester Online (www.RochesterNY.com) DBSA Rochester is a non-profit group composed of people who have (or suspect that they have) depression or bipolar disorder. We have peer-led self-help support group meetings for those with the disorder (where family and friends are welcome). Two related self-help groups exclusively for friends and family members and for parents of bipolar children also meet in our area. See our Meetings page for details. We are a local affiliate of the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), which is headquartered in Chicago. We are committed to providing information and peer support to people with depression or bipolar disorder (manic depression), and their families and friends. We support, empower, and advocate for people with these and related mental illnesses. Our mission is to raise awareness and knowledge about these disorders through education; to encourage persons to seek treatment; to help alleviate the stigma associated with these disorders; to advocate for research; and, to promote mental wellness and recovery in a safe, caring environment. For information about the National / International DBSA organization (or to order free brochures and publications) visit www.dbsalliance.org or call 1-800-826-3632. Note: DBSA Rochester is in the midst of a renewal / reorganization effort.
